Organization Summary:
Hope After Rape (HAR) is a national indigenous NGO in Uganda dedicated to empowering vulnerable communities. HAR’s vision is a resilient, dignified, and safe society.
HAR has received a two-year grant award from Enabel, the Belgian Development Agency, under the framework of Green and Decent Jobs for Youth (WeWork) in the Busoga region. This initiative aims to improve the livelihoods of 300 vulnerable youths in Kamuli District by equipping them with sustainable green skills for regular income and financial independence.
Job Description:
A Safe Space Assistant supports the implementation of activities in a safe and inclusive environment, providing guidance, psychosocial support, and resources to individuals, particularly vulnerable groups, to promote their well-being and empowerment.
Key Duties:
1. Facility Management:
o Ensure safe spaces are secure, welcoming, and conducive to learning. Maintain and monitor the availability of resources, tools, and materials within the safe spaces.
2. Support for Training Activities:
o Assist in the delivery of training sessions, including life skills, health awareness, and technical skills training.
Maintain attendance records and track resource usage during training.
3. Data Management:
o Support social workers in collecting and updating trainee data in primary tools and systems. Assist in documenting activities, achievements, and challenges within the safe spaces.
4. Participant Well-being:
o Monitor the safety and well-being of participants, reporting any concerns or issues to the social worker. Foster a positive and inclusive environment that supports the diverse needs of trainees.
5. Logistics and Support:
Provide logistical support for training activities and events, including setup and material preparation. o Collaborate with social workers to address any operational challenges within the safe spaces.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
• Minimum of Diploma in Social Work, Community Development, or a related field.
• At least 1 year of experience in supporting community-based initiatives or youth programs.
• Basic knowledge of psychosocial support and gender equity principles.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Adequate knowledge and experience in utilizing computer packages such as ms office packages.
• Good communication and team building skills.
• Ability to work under supervision and as part of a team.
• Proven ability to ride motor cycle is added advantage.
